{"id":202,"date":"2009-04-24T09:01:29","date_gmt":"2009-04-24T13:01:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mrmaher.wordpress.com\/?p=202"},"modified":"2023-02-22T22:48:36","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T22:48:36","slug":"cornpeg-illiteracy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infinitude.maherpages.net\/index.php\/2009\/04\/24\/cornpeg-illiteracy\/","title":{"rendered":"CORNPEG Illiteracy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been buried under wave of teacher observations, annual summative evaluations, writing an online AP Euro course and the annual Spring race through cub scouts, boy scouts and baseball.\u00a0 But I was shocked out of my grindstone lethargy by a message send to the College Board&#8217;s AP European History teacher list serve:<\/p>\n<div id=\"anwm\" style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<div id=\"rcwp\" style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width:409px;height:332px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dc7f7m5r_179g7d937c2_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;ve never heard of CORNPEG either, but based on the fact that it is associated with AP Euro it&#8217;s probably something like SOAPS (<strong>S<\/strong>ubject <strong>O<\/strong>ccasion <strong>A<\/strong>udience <strong>P<\/strong>urpose <strong>S<\/strong>ubject).\u00a0 Just another acronym tool we use with students to help sharpen their essay writing skills.\u00a0 Then again it could have been an obscure agricultural tool.<\/p>\n<p>I was just as ignorant and just as curious as the teacher who posted this message.\u00a0 The difference between us is that I knew that I could find the answer in less than a minute, she thought her only option was posting to the listserve.\u00a0 I threw &#8220;CORNPEG History&#8221; into Google and found a syllabus from a teacher in Oklahoma that gave me the answer.\u00a0 Thanks to Earl Dalke at Mustang High School, I now know what CORNPEG is.<\/p>\n<div id=\"eg4j\" style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width:642px;height:567px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dc7f7m5r_1809zxr7wd9_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-205 aligncenter\" title=\"blogpost-3-42409\" src=\"http:\/\/mrmaher.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/blogpost-3-42409.jpg\" alt=\"blogpost-3-42409\" width=\"500\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s the moral of the story?\u00a0 Thousands of dollars of professional development and drive-by &#8220;look what I can do!&#8221; presentations don&#8217;t have half the effect of a simple habit of mind.
